Project Background
OMS Group, LLC (OMS) staff were engaged by a large coal mine operator to assess existing water management practices against NPDES permit requirements, groundwater basin plan objectives, and EPA Western Alkaline Coal rule requirements related to mine water and mining reclamation management objectives.
Scope
OMS’ team of regulatory experts reviewed regulatory and operational requirements to develop surface water disposal alternatives that addressed state and federal requirements for mining surface water management and which facilitated and optimized opportunities for water reuse in support of ongoing operations and in support of existing beneficial uses related to mine reclamation activities and post-closure.
